Officials received a 911 call at 2:39 p.m. Monday about the accident that occurred on the left side of Cutter Trail.

Ski patrol was immediately dispatched to the scene and paramedics attempted to save Kemp. He was taken to Berkshire Medical Center and later transferred to Baystate Medical Center for further care, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Tuesday.
Kemp was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. District Attorney's Office He added: “There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.”
The Cutter Trail is a black diamond trail that is rated “most difficult” and for expert skiers, according to a Jiminy peak trail map.

Kemp, an avid runner, came to Williams College from Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey, after being recruited to the cross country team by university president Maude Mandel. He said in a statement Wednesday.
“Alex was incredibly brave and motivated as a runner, both in training and competition. But even when he wasn't having his best days, he was thrilled and proud to see his teammates doing well.” His cross country coach is Dusty Lopez He said in a university statement.
“Our thoughts and hearts are with his family, teammates, high school coaches, and everyone who was lucky enough to know Alex,” Lopez continued.

“Alex was one of the strongest students I have taught in my 21 years at the college,” Dukes Love, an economics professor who taught Kemp, said in the statement.
During high school, Kemp volunteered regularly, including at camp where he helped teach children with disabilities to ride adaptive bikes as a step toward their independence.

Kemp's own words on his college application essay included: “Everyone needs someone to support them and always remind them to root for themselves.”
“This is the spirit described by so many people who knew him,” Mandel concluded in the university’s statement.
