progressive Washington State Legislators submitted a bill that could remove George Washington from state science.
The House 1938 Bill aims to create a committee that designs a new state flag “that better reflects the diversity and values of all Washington population.”
According to the democratic legislators who have proposed the draft law, the state's flag “often faces criticism of its bad design and the importance of the state's identity.”

Legislators say The science is unpleasant in terms of aesthetic because it “uses a lot of colors” and its design is “old and inspiring.”
The draft law will establish a committee to develop a new design for the official state flag, which reflects “common history, resources and various cultural societies.”
The committee will consist of representatives from the Government Arts Committee in Washington, the legislators from the House of Representatives and the Senate, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a historian, designers, cultural leaders, tribal representatives, and representatives of citizens from different regions of the state, appointed by a governor.
The committee will then request general reactions by communicating with schools, community organizations, tribes, public forums, virtual discussions and online surveys before approval of a new design by July 1, 2028.

Voters must agree to design the new flag in the upcoming general elections before adopting it as the new state flag.
Representatives of the Democratic State, Strom Peterson, Julia Reed and Greg Nans, presented the bill on February 11.
A public hearing in Olympia is scheduled to be held before the House of Representatives for Government Relations and Tribal Relations on February 18, Fox28 mentioned Spokan.

The proposal has caused criticism from Republican lawmakers in the state.
Representative Brian Burnett, a Republican, told Washington Radio KPQ station“We have the third highest crime rate in the country. We have the third highest cost for gas, the third highest home population, and the fourth is more expensive. So this is what we need to spend our time. Are you joke with me?”
