BBC speaks to people in Kiev to see if people in the Ukrainian capital believe that the ceasefire deal can be a step towards ending the war with Russia.
Ukraine agreed to a 30 -day ceasefire plan earlier this week, following talks with the United States.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has since said that he agreed to the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but added that “questions” remain about the nature of the armistice.
He also put a number of difficult conditions for peace. Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski described Putin's response to the plan as a “manipulation” and called for more sanctions against Russia.
Russia launched a widespread invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, after it was annexed from the Crimea in 2014, and it has been a continuous war since then.
