“Even lower than our…” Gaurav Taneja questions Shark Tank India's influence as a branding tool

Former pilot-turned-YouTuber Gaurav Taneja has questioned the brand impact of Shark Tank India after the show failed to land a deal recently. After not getting any deal for his supplement brand BeastLife on Shark Tank India Season 4, Taneja raised questions about the marketing power of the show.

In a LinkedIn post, Taneja wrote, β€œWe recently married BeastLife on Shark Tank India and it was a fantastic experience! Many tout the show as a huge branding tool – even if you don't secure a deal, the exposure is priceless.

Naturally, we expected a huge increase in website traffic given the strong brand equity and massive audience that Shark Tank has built over its four seasons. But here's what the numbers revealed:

πŸ”Ή Operation on Rosier Foods start day: πŸ°πŸ¬πŸ΄π—ž
πŸ”Ή Operation on BeastLife opening day: 28πŸ΄πŸ΄π—ž
πŸ”Ή Traffic on and on hashtag #SharkTank issue date: 22K

Surprisingly, the traffic from Shark Tank was even lower than the push from our own Instagram Stories!”

He wondered if Shark Tank India was losing popularity due to being under a pay wall. “The show can gain traction once episodes are uploaded to YouTube (allowing free viewing for a larger audience),” he said, adding: “Skip the telecast for Season 4 was a strategic mistake.”

In the latest episode of Shark Tank India Season 4, Taneja appeared as a pitchman along with his business partner for his fitness brand BeastLife. The fitness brand sells a variety of products such as easily digestible protein supplements, creatine monohydrate and energy boosters.

During the presentation, they claimed that the brand quickly gained traction and saw sales worth Rs 1 crore within just an hour of its website launch.

Taneja aka Flying Beast also found himself in the middle of another controversy for promoting a brand other than BeastLife using Shark Tank India. He was seen promoting Rosier Foods, another brand known for making organic ghee using Vedic techniques. Other popular products of the brand are oil, Amlaprash, raw and natural honey as well as nut butters.

Social media users were outraged at the promotional exercise. Some users even suggested that people stop consuming content from influencers like Gaurav Taneja. Others saw the move as hypocritical, as the YouTuber didn't say anything about Rosier Foods on the show, but is now promoting it using Shark Tank.
