Federal officials were prevented from requesting arrest and deporting a Colombia student


Immigration authorities have been ordered by a federal judge to stop their efforts to arrest a student of the University of Colombia, who participated in demonstrations in support of the Palestinians. The American boycott judge, Naomi Puchawald, issued the restriction order on Tuesday, just one day after the student filed a lawsuit.

Yunuso Chung, who lived in the United States since she was seven years old, is sued the president Donald Trump A number of members of his administration after the federal authorities tried to arrest and deport it. In the lawsuit, Chong's lawyers say the government's pursuit of a Colombia student is “an unjustified assault on the first amendment.”

Chong's lawsuit states that she has not been arrested or disciplined regarding events in the camp. However, she was later arrested during the 2025 protest in Barnard College. The lawsuit claims that it is common in New York City that the police arrest many demonstrators and that the charges are usually dropped or rejected.

The lawsuit states that on March 8, an ice official signed an administrative arrest warrant for the Chong and Federal Law enforcement to the home of Chung's parents the next day seeking to arrest her.

It is claimed that the immigration enforcement official (ICE) told Chong's lawyer on March 10 that her green card had been “canceled”, according to the lawsuit. The government has the power to cancel the permanent resident status if they believe that the person has violated the Immigration Law.

Chong's lawyers say the law has searched Chung's bedroom on March 13, according to a memorandum.

His arrest sparked protests throughout New York City, where many said that the Trump administration violates his right to freedom of expression.

The Trump administration considered that the actions of Khalil and Chung and the performance of other demonstrators were supporting Hamas, a terrorist organization designed by the United States.

“ICE HSI will achieve individuals participating in activities to support Hamas, a foreign terrorist organization. According to the results of the investigation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may take a decision that may lead to the abolition of the visa or any other action that affects the state of migration in the foreigner in the United States on the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ICE will take appropriate enforcement measures.”
