Winning at Aubenas by Petit Poucet Sud Ardèche (1-0) in front of 1900 spectators (!), OAC advanced to the round of 16 of the Gambardella Cup. Nîmes Olympique dreams of joining Alès. But it will take a Herculean effort to beat OGC Nice on Sunday 12 January at 2.30pm.
“We made it to the round of 16 of the Gambardella Cup. It's incredible! Like in all cups we go through the first round and then the next round to get into the games. We got through the qualifying rounds in front of 1900 people and there were two rounds. “When we put on a full stand the players will remember it for a long time and to get to 10 after the game was incredible!”
OAC U18 coach Mehdi Sidane is a happy coach. Alès, who live in Region 1, qualified thanks to a single fine goal from home scorer Naser Eddine Fakhar (19th minute) at Petit Poucet Sud Ardèche (Departmental) in Aubenas on Saturday 11 January.
“We controlled the first period, were in a good position, Auvenas had very few shots on goal, and after the red card, in a very crowded pitch, they pushed, threw the ball into our area, but my goalkeeper (Soen Baar Boo) In the end, there wasn’t much to do…”
Fakhar scorer, excluding Bousquel
It was Theo Busquel (64th minute) who was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the same minute. The first was a foul and the second was sent off for provocation by Ardecoa. In the end, without consequences.
6-0 at Montpellier UC, 3-1 at Conques, 5-0 at Clermont L'Hérault (in the rematch, the first match was abandoned due to a storm), 3-2, 1-1 at Blagnac and Balma (of R1 Occitanie). OAC, fortunately exempt from the first national round, continues its great adventure, having made 6 of 7 shots against (second in the rest of the group).
No feat.
This Sunday January 12th at 2:30 PM at the Bastide Stadium, the U18s of Nîmes Olympique (3rd in Region 1) will host the Nationals of OGC Nice, where both the U19s and U17s are in the top 5 of their groups. There may be young pros lining up on the Riviera side. Therefore, it would be an achievement for Yannick Bileck's men to join the OAC in the round of 16… they will have nothing to lose in any case!
OM Dreams of Alésiens
“Now that we've traveled a lot, we're hoping to win the big prize on the 16th. What's our preference? Omg! It's possible because there's a geographic draw this round too.”Confides Sidane. The verdict will be delivered next Thursday, January 16, during the round of 16 draw, which will be held on the weekend of February 1 and 2.
