Former Obama staffers Jon Lovett and Jon Favreau urged Democrats to talk like regular people on Wednesday and urged party members to stop talking like a press release.
“If we want to be a party that can win elections, we have to be a party that people want to attend. And you see a Trump rally and people are having a good time at that event. The podcast host said that while he believes they shouldn't look back, the party still needs to acknowledge the mistake they made.
“We've lost a lot of credibility with people, and we haven't had the ability to reach people. So, yeah, we're frustrated and upset,” Lovett said. “I think we need to own the ways in which we take responsibility for our inability to successfully communicate the threat that Donald Trump poses.”
Favreau said Democrats need to speak naturally to voters, and that assuming people will vote Democratic because of who they are should not be an assumption.
