Tech billionaire Elon Musk called on the free trade zone between the US and Europe without any tariffs, in the middle of the growing political tension. His remarks came during the conference organized by the Italian far -right league party, shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a 20% tariff on the imports of the European Union.
“Ideally, Europe and the United States should move into a situation with a zero tariff and effectively create a free trade zone between Europe and North America,” he said.
Musk's defense for zone with zero tariff and Open Labor movement is in line with his long -term belief in the free flow of innovation and talents. Despite the tension of his vision, he supports the more integrated economic relationship between the US and Europe. “That was certainly my council to the President,” Musk pointed out, strengthening his commitment to this idea.
The economic environment between the US and Europe is currently tense due to Trump's protectionist measures, but Muska's proposals are introducing a different perspective on potential cooperation.
In addition to his business proposals, Musk also expressed support for more freedom of movement for workers between Europe and North America. “If people want to work in Europe or want to work in North America, they should be allowed in my opinion,” he said, noting that he had shared this advice with President Trump. This attitude is somewhat contrary to the anti-immigration sentiment predominantly in many right-wing political circles.
In the middle of the escalating tensions of the Italian Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti, a member of the league, called “de escalaci” in response to American tariffs. Giorgetti warned against retaliation, which could lead to further economic disruption. Meanwhile, the European Union aims to respond to the American tariffs “calm, carefully phased and unified way”, as the head of EU trade Maros Sefcovic said.
Muska's growing political engagement is evident in its support for right -wing European parties, such as the Italian League and the German AfD. His performance at the League conference is a reflection of his growing affinity with the far right European policy and his role in President Trump's administration as the head of the Ministry of Efficiency of the Government.
During the Musk conference, he criticized the EU regulations and described them as burdensome and useless. He warned against “danger of censorship and mass immigration”, which teamed up with some views of President Trump on these questions. Muska's support for Trump's domestic policy is accompanied by his approval of characters such as Salvini, and strengthens his ties to the Italian conservative block.
