Google has reported the results of an experiment It ran out of news from search results for 1% of users within 2.5 months to eight* European markets – claiming results shows that the news is essentially worthless in the Google ad business.
The giant search conducted the test because European copyright law requires it to pay news publishers for the reuse of snippets of their content. But how much does the news show cost? Google argued that publishers “overwhelmed” the value of their journalism in its business; Each of its trials reports, the actual value “cannot be distinguished statistics from zero, either generally or in the country.”
Google expects to use this outcome as an action on negotiating payments to European publishers. But the tech giant walks a tricky line, as is facing Basic Antitrust Fines In France in recent years related to the news content. In particular, it has been charged more than half a billion dollars over it Approach to copyright negotiations with publishersspecifically.
The German competition authority has directed the investigation of Google's Elements of the News around the news -and forced the company to make changes. So any motions through Google to try to break the EU copyright law impact by claiming news is worthless can it go to more hot water regulations.
In fact, the company first included French users in the news test tests but left this part of the experiment after a French court warned it would be erased for the destruction of an earlier agreement with the Antitrust authority. Interestingly, Google also did not run the German test.
