For years, the career procedure was followed by a simple rule: Hold on long enough and move up. But Anupam Mittal, founder of the People Group and judge at Shark Tank India, says the playbook is now outdated.
In a recent post LinkedIn, Mittal was thinking about the question he was asked: “What is the best way to promote?” His answer? The longevity itself does not guarantee growth. Instead, three key factors determine the success of today's fast -growing workplace.
1. Speed and dexterity over experience
“The market is moving at 10 times,” Mittal said. “If you take months to study, strategize and adapt to the trend, toh AAP already outdated.” He stressed that rapid decision -making based on the first principles is what really matters.
2. Progress above the mere movement
Mittal shared a lesson from his own experience: “I worked for 90 hours that brought nothing. And I saw 1 thoughtful project that brings more than months of noise.” He stressed that real progress comes from the measurement of the impact, not only for hours.
3. Ownership over a claim
“The workplace of the new age is not a school classroom where participation = transmission of brands,” he said. Employees participating in the initiative decide and manage the results – as founders – are those who move up.
Mittal believes that waiting for a society that detects and rewards efforts is “a terrible way to manage his career”. Instead, they advise experts to bring exceptional value in accordance with business goals, and then actively seek out the positions and compensation they deserve.
“Before I was the founder, I tried to watch this book,” he said. “And usually came forward.”
At a time when the industries develop at fracture speed, Mittal's report is clear: promotion is not provided for tenure – they earn an impact.
