Kenneth Fire: LAPD arrests arson suspect


The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested a suspect in the fire they believe may have started the Kenneth Fire. KTLA reports that Los Angeles police responded to claims of an arsonist in Woodland Hills, California on Thursday, January 9.

Details on the Kennett fire near Woodland Hills

The Kenneth Fire started around 2:30 p.m. in dry brush in the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space, just north of the 101 Freeway, according to KTLA. By 9:00 p.m., the fire covered 1,000 hectares, and firefighters covered 35% of it.

according to The HillLAPD Chief Charles Dinse said investigators are treating the incident as a crime. Dinse also noted that investigators have not determined a motive for starting the fire, which has already burned 900 miles in the Golden State. In addition, Dinse noted that the fire was a possible “arson incident.”

Authorities are investigating the arson, but have not released additional details about the suspect. This was reported by Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hockman NewsNation In an interview with The Hill, the move could lead to a manslaughter charge, which carries a potential life sentence.

“Justice will come soon. This will be final and the highest punishment will be demanded.” Hochman said.

In addition, Hochman emphasized their commitment to justice for the crime and their determination to send a clear warning with their actions.

“Our goal is to send this warning. Be it looting, internet scams, robbery or future fires. We want to ensure justice and we will do it” Hochman explained.
