2024 has been a great year for football.
We've had shock and drama, emotional goodbyes and great goals. But how much do you remember this year?
BBC Sport has looked back at the 15 best football moments of 2024.
Non-League Maidstone shock Ipswich in FA Cup
National League South side Maidstone United caused a huge shock in the FA Cup with a fourth round away win over then-Championship club Ipswich Town.
Excellent counter-attacking goals from Lamar Reynolds and Sam Corne – Maidstone's only try on target – sparked scenes of jubilation as the non-league side secured a stunning 2-1 win over a side 98 places higher in the football pyramid.
Klopp's last trophy before parting ways with Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp shocked the football world by announcing in January that he would resign as Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023-24 season.
He lifted another trophy as Manchester United beat Chelsea 1-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley thanks to Virgil van Dijk's extra-time header.
It will be Klopp's final win before an emotional farewell to Anfield in Liverpool's final game of the season in May.
Hayes leaves Chelsea role with another WSL win.
Emma Hayes was another celebrity who left her domestic job in England when she agreed to become head coach of the US women's national team in the summer.
Before she left, Hayes won her fifth successive Women's Super League title with Chelsea. Manchester City looked to win the competition, but conceded two late goals and lost 2-1 at home to Arsenal.
This gave Chelsea a 6-0 win over Manchester United on the final day, taking City to the title on goal difference.
Manchester City wins 4th consecutive title
Manchester City made history by becoming the first team to win the English title in four consecutive seasons.
Pep Guardiola's City needed to win their last game to secure a historic win over rivals Arsenal.
Two goals from Phil Foden and one from Rodri gave City a 3-1 win over West Ham to finish the campaign two points ahead of the Gunners.
Celtic complete the double by beating Rangers in the final
Celtic had already secured the Scottish Premiership title and were looking to win the Scottish Cup double against rivals Rangers.
Brendan Rodgers' side won 1-0 in dramatic style at Hampden Park. Thanks to Adam Idah's last-minute victory in a nerve-wracking battle with few clear chances.
This is not the only time Celtic have beaten Rangers in the 2024 cup final. This time in the Scottish League Cup, they won 5-4 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
Manchester United defeated City in the FA Cup final.
Manchester United had a miserable league season, ending the 2023-24 season in 8th place, their lowest place in the Premier League era.
But they have a chance to end the season on a high when they face league champions Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
Excellent first-half play gave United a 2-0 lead through goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, and despite Jeremy Doku scoring one in the second half, Erik Ten Hag's side secured the cup win and qualification for Europe.
Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to a stunning double.
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso guided Bayer Leverkusen to their first German title, ending Bayern Munich's 11-year winning run as his side remained unbeaten throughout the Bundesliga campaign.
Leverkusen also won the German Cup and advanced to the Europa League final.
However, Leverkusen, who had been unbeaten for 51 consecutive games, failed to achieve a surprising treble as they lost 0-3 to Atalanta in the final, with Ademola Lookman scoring a hat-trick.
Bellingham's outstanding performance saves England
England were heading for an embarrassing and tame exit from the Euro 2024 round of 16, trailing 1-0 against Slovakia by the time Ivan Schranz's goal went into injury time.
But in the 95th minute, England were awarded a throw-in down the right flank, Marc Guehi headed it in at the near post and Jude Bellingham created a moment of magic with a stunning overhead kick to equalize for the Three Lions.
As a result, England won 2-1 in extra time thanks to Harry Kane's goal.
Spain crushes England's expectations in dramatic Euro final
Following a dramatic win over Slovakia, England beat Switzerland on penalties in the quarter-finals and scored a last-second goal to beat the Netherlands in the semi-finals.
This took Gareth Southgate's side to a second successive European Championship final, but as with their 2021 performance against Italy, the Three Lions fell short and missed out on their first men's trophy since 1966.
Nico Williams put Spain ahead early in the second half before substitute Cole Palmer equalized. However, this time, England secured a 2-1 victory over Spain with Mikel Oyarzabal's winning goal in the 86th minute of the second half.
Hayes' USA wins Olympic gold medal
As previously mentioned, Emma Hayes left Chelsea to play for the U.S. Women's National Team at the end of the season, and her first tournament came shortly thereafter at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The United States topped its group with wins over Zambia, Germany and Australia, and overtime wins over Japan and Germany sent Hayes' team to the final against Brazil.
Mallory Swanson's composed second-half finish was enough to give the United States its first Olympic gold medal in women's soccer since 2012.
Ronaldo achieves 900th personal goal
Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to reach a career-high 900 goals as Portugal scored a 2-1 Nations League win over Croatia in Lisbon last September.
The 39-year-old doubled Portugal's lead in the 34th minute with a volley from the edge of the six-yard box to meet Nuno Mendes' deep cross.
The goal was Portugal's 131st goal (now 135) 20 years after his first, his most ever scored in international competition, and the veteran fell to his knees in emotional celebration.
Kane scores Golden Boot in 100th England appearance
England captain Harry Kane celebrated his 100th cap for his country in style by scoring twice in Finland's UEFA Nations League defeat at Wembley in September.
Kane was presented with a golden cap and wore golden boots before kick-off to mark the occasion. He used it in style to demolish a stubborn Finnish team.
England's all-time top scorer scored his 67th and 68th career international goals, and his 69th in a 5-0 home win over the Republic of Ireland in November.
Villa beat Bayern in the 1982 European Cup final.
Jhon Duran came off the bench in dramatic fashion to give Aston Villa a stunning 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League at a jubilant Villa Park.
In a meeting surrounded by a rich sense of history, a repeat of Villa's victory over the German giants in the 1982 European Cup final in Rotterdam, Duran ensured a replica of the scoreline.
Duran, who came on as a substitute for Ollie Watkins in the 70th minute, took just nine minutes to score when he caught Bayern's veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer high.
Tuchel becomes England manager
Following Gareth Southgate's resignation as England manager following defeat in the Euro 2024 final, Lee Carsley has stepped down from the Under-21s to take on the role of interim manager of the Three Lions in the Nations League.
After four of six games, it was announced that former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will become England's next manager from 1 January 2025.
The German, who has signed an 18-month contract until the end of the 2026 World Cup, becomes the third non-British men's national team permanent coach after Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Spain's double success at Ballon d'Or awards
Spain had two successes at the Ballon d'Or awards in October.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri won the men's award, ahead of Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham, who took second and third place respectively.
Rodri played a key role in City's Premier League win last May and was named Player of the Tournament as Spain won Euro 2024.
Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatti won the Women's Ballon d'Or for the second year in a row.
She won every trophy possible at club level last season as Barcelona won a historic quadruple of Liga F, Champions League, Supercopa and Copa de la Reina.
