The Detroit Lions franchise finds itself in an unfamiliar position as the 2024 season draws to a close. Next Sunday they will face the Vikings for all the NFC (regular season) marbles in the first-ever season matchup involving a team with 13 or more wins. But before they can open the season at home, they have to face a 49ers team Monday night in San Francisco that has come off an injury-plagued season all the way to the finish line.
Every position group in San Francisco appears to have been depleted at one point or another due to injuries this season, and that's the offensive line in Week 17. Three starters – Aaron Banks, Spencer Burford and Colton McKivitz – were on the injury report this week, with Banks and Burford held out of practice and McKivitz a limited participant.
Regardless of the outcome of Monday's game, next week's Sunday Night Football Vikings vs. Lions showdown in Detroit will be a contest for the NFC's No. 1 seed. Coach Dan Campbell said the Lions “(They) bring everything they have to this game.” No starter will rest.
