Georgia Basketball Team Enters Top 25 Wednesday night for the first time in 14 years.
No. 23 Bulldogs They face a tough test when they have to play a No. 6 team in Tennessee, which came off a 30-point loss at Florida and a close win at Texas.
It was a big game for Knoxville native Blue Cain. The Bulldogs' second-year guard will be playing his first game in his hometown against the Bulldogs.
“It’s going to be very exciting to stand in front of my friends and family,” said Cain, who didn’t consider himself a Vols fan growing up and wasn’t recruited by Tennessee.
It may be hard to believe, but according to Tennessee, this is the first time these teams have played against a ranked opponent in the AP rankings. The teams have played 161 times previously.
“The readiness to fight from the get-go is amazing,” Georgia coach Mike White said on his radio show Monday. “Tennessee is as solid defensively as any team in the country. They fight for every part of the court, defend screens, action and ball screens at a high level, and switch coverage. They will be very physical on the inside.”
Tennessee is 13-1 in its last 14 games at home against ranked opponents.
North Florida guard transfer Chaz Lanier is second in the SEC with 19 points per game and fifth in the nation in 3-pointers made per game with 3.7 points.
Lanier has 10 points in each of the last two games. He shot 3 of 16 against Florida and 3 of 11 against Texas, throwing the ball in the final 11 seconds of the second half.
Lanier scored 16 points and 4 of 8 on 3-pointers in a 78-60 loss to Georgia last season.
