A Judge of Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil gave more time to review Immigration issue During the Friday session in Louisiana.
Khalil, the owner of a 30 -year -old green card married to an American citizen, was arrested by immigration and customs officials on March 8. He faces a possible deportation for his alleged support for Palestinian terrorism group Hamas, Although he was not accused of a crime.
The judge at the Immigration Court in Lael Callet said that she believes that Khalil “deserves more time” to prepare before the pleading and delay the procedures until April 8.
A lawyer who represented the Ministry of Internal Security originally objected to the matter, on the pretext that Khalil was “held at the expense of the government.” However, Khalil Al -Qadi's lawyer told “these are serious concerns, we need time to review.”

Khalil looked calm throughout the session, which was revealed in a small courtroom without windows. He spoke relatively calmly in his responses to the judge and seemed somewhat comfortable. The judge asked him about the language he understood better and said that the English and Arabic, and when I asked if they could go forward in the English language, he said yes.
Khalil played a major role in anti -Israel protests in Colombia.
In a letter issued by his lawyers on Tuesday, Khalil described his arrest As “an indication of the hostile racism of the Palestinian.” He also blamed the Colombia administration, including former university president, Minosh Shavek, who was criticized for his failure to respond sufficiently to the allegations of anti -Semitic behavior of activists on the campus before he finally stepped down.
Khalil wrote: “My unjust detention indicates the anti -Palestinians, which was shown by both Biden and Trump's departments over the past 16 months, as the United States has continued to provide Israel with weapons to kill the Palestinians and prevent international intervention.” “For decades, the hostile racism has pushed efforts to expand the usual American laws and practices to suppress the Palestinians, Arab Americans and other societies violently. This is exactly the reason I am aiming.”

In one of the first legal victories of Khalil, a judge on Wednesday ordered the deportation case in New Jersey, not Louisiana, where he is detained. The judge referred to a law that requires the case in the same jurisdiction, as Khalil's lawyers filed a lawsuit first to challenge his detention.
The Trump administration said earlier that there was a bugs injury at the detention facility in New Jersey, near the arrest of Khalil, which led them to ship him to Louisiana.

“His illegal and unlawful detention cannot stop. We will not stop fighting until he returns home with me,” Nour Abdel -Ala, his wife, said in a statement issued by the American Civil Liberties Union earlier this week.
