Owen Hargreaves explained manchester uniteddecision to hear a loan offer Marcus Rashford He called it 'madness' and urged the club to continue. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobe Mainu.
Rashford has made it clear he wants to leave United to seek a 'new challenge'. The 27-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
But Rashford's £325,000-a-week wages are a major hurdle and United are understood to be asking clubs to contribute the last half of that sum to secure a loan deal this month.
However, Hargreaves believes Rashford's departure would be a 'big blow' and believes the forward will still have a key role to play under Ruben Amorim.
After United's 3-1 win over Southampton on Thursday evening, Hargreaves urged United to prioritize midfielders and attacking reinforcements in the next two transfer windows, saying Amorim's system would help the team dominate games. I questioned whether it would happen.
“I don’t know if anyone would want to play in a counter-attacking style, especially not Manchester United. You have to play on the front foot and dominate the ball,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.
'This is why Erik Ten Hag got the job because he played the Ajax way. They dominated the ball, that's why they got rid of David de Gea, brought in (Andre) Onana, brought in a ball-playing goalkeeper.
'But that didn't materialize. United were best on the counter-attack. Ten Hag's best performances have come on the counter-attack, as under Ole Gunnar (Solskjaer).
'If you look at United's performance under Amorim against Liverpool, Arsenal and City, where are the counter-attacks good? I think if you play with two central midfielders, (Toby) Collier and Bruno Fernandes, you won't be able to dominate the ball, and that's what you do against a team ranked 20th in the Premier League.
'I think this is a work in progress on many levels. The goalkeeper is set and not bad defensively, but needs work in the middle of the pitch and clearing out the striker positions.
'But obviously losing Marcus Rashford could be a huge blow. 'The talk of Garnazzo potentially leaving is worrying.'
Napoli have made Garnacho their top target as a replacement for Kvica Kvaratskelia, who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain for €70 million (£58.9 million).
When asked what he would do if he took charge of United, Hargreaves replied: ‘No one leaves…’ Rashford is not leaving, Maino is not leaving, Garnacho is not leaving… No one leaves.
'They are the best players. We will help integrate them and build around them. You will never be better than them.
'It's crazy to rent these people out and make them pay half their wages. It's impossible. I won't let that happen.
'Marcus may want to go somewhere and play, or he may want to get his mind together and get organized. Look where Harry Maguire was a few years ago. Now he has a new contract.
'Football is changing really quickly and we want to keep the most talented players here. I think Garnacho, Mainoo and Marcus are definitely part of that group and could have a bright future if they work out their issues.'
