BRADENTON, Fla. (KDKA) – If Tuesday's snow made you think of warmer weather, the Pittsburgh Pirates now know when they will start reporting to spring training in Florida next month.

The league has announced the first workout dates for all clubs, with the Pirates scheduled to hold their first pitcher and catcher workouts on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and their first full-squad workouts on Monday, Feb. 17.

The Pirates are in last place in the 2024 National League Central Division with 76 wins and 86 losses.

It's been an active offseason so far for the Pirates, with both staff changes and trades being made.

After firing Andy Haynes as the team's hitting coach last November, They hired Matt Hague as his replacement.

“We are very excited to add Matt to our group as he adds a mix of playing and coaching experience along with really strong relationships,” said Derek Shelton, Pirates manager. “The feedback we have received from players he has worked with previously has been excellent and we look forward to him leading our batting team in the future.”

Along with hiring Hague as the hitting coach, the team also announced the hiring of the next player. Brent Strom as assistant pitching coach.

Strom has worked with pitchers such as Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, and Dallas Keuchel.

Pirates when it comes to roster moves Andrew McCutchen renews one-year contractsigned pitcher Caleb Fergusonand get first baseman Spencer Horwitz of the Cleveland Guardians.

The Pirates open the season in Miami against the Marlins on March 27 and have their home opener against the Yankees on April 4 at PNC Park.
