PITTSBURGH — The Pitt Panthers continue to look for quality talent in Western Pennsylvania and have offered a talented player nearby.
Brandon Murphy, a member of the Class of 2028 who plays at Clairton High School near the WPIAL, announced on Twitter that he received an offer from Pitt.
Murphy attended Pitt Junior Day, a program that invites freshmen and brings them to a basketball game held at Pitt's Petersen Events Center. lost Louisville, 82-78.
Panthers assistant coach/associate coach Cory Sanders made Murphy an offer because the team sees him as a college-level defender.
This is Murphy's fourth offer, as he received offers from Syracuse, Temple and Akron prior to his freshman season.
He had a solid 2024 at Clairton, recording 103 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery on defense. He also added 185 yards rushing and three touchdowns on offense.
Murphy also led Clairton to a 13-1 season and the WPIAL Class 1A championship at Acrisure Stadium before losing 21-20 to Fort Cherry.
Pitt has history with Clairton, acquiring three talents at wide receiver in the 2013 class. Tyler Boyd Defensive backs Terrish Webb and Titus Howard.
The three of them spent four incredible seasons with the Clairton Bears from 2009 to 2012, compiling a 63-1 record and winning four consecutive WPIAL and PIAA Class 1A titles.
Boyd would go on to have a better career at Pitt, playing three seasons there. His 254 catches and 3,361 receiving yards in his career are the most by any Pitt player in program history. He also has 21 receiving touchdowns, tied for sixth on Pitt's career list.
Murphy is the second WPIAL player in the class of 2028 to receive a Pitt offer, joining Hopewell quarterback James “Booboo” Armstrong.
