There was a lot of talk this offseason about the future of Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas.
Casas is only 24 years old. It won't be a free agent. Until 2029. He has all the upside in the world and has shown he can be an All-Star caliber player. Meanwhile, he missed most of the 2024 season due to a rib cartilage injury.
The young slugger has been in trade rumors all offseason so far, even though he remains with the organization. He is cost-controlled and should not be traded unless the team is embarrassed by a huge deal. That seems unlikely, as he missed a lot of time last year.
Trade chatter has continued throughout the offseason, but the young slugger certainly made it known what he wants the team to do on WEEI on Saturday. As transcribed by Red Sox Stats for X
“Hopefully I can come up with some numbers and get back to negotiating a contract extension,” Casas said. “The Sox are my first team and hopefully my last team. I play for the six letters on my heart.”
If you're a Red Sox fan, this might be the best thing to hear. Casas has had a strange offseason so far, but he has made it known that he wants to stick around.
MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo shared a separate quote from Casas: stick around In Boston.
“I want to play here the rest of my career, but if it’s anywhere else, I’ll be playing a major league game anywhere on March 28,” Casas said.
It certainly seems like Casas wants to stay in Boston.
