“My heart literally sank when I got the call!! My heart broke!!!” Ludford wrote in an emotional Instagram post. “Never in a million years did I think I'd write something like this about @thevivienne_.”

Ludford shared that they had an instant connection, reflecting on their first meeting on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria in August 2017.

“We clicked right away and I knew right away that we were going to be in each other's lives for a long time,” Ludford said. “We've literally been through and through so much together. It's been like a whirlwind and I wouldn't trade our time together for anything in the world.”

Although Ludford and Williams have been divorced for over a year, Ludford stressed that their bond and shared memories will always be important.

“I'm going to miss it more than people will ever know,” Ludford said. – Sleep well, angel.

The touching ceremony was accompanied by a carousel of photos, including shots from their wedding night and other candid moments throughout their relationship. Ludford later shared a second post with more photos, writing, “My heart is literally broken, I feel so out of place, I feel lost, I feel myself. Fly high angel and keep shining 💗‍✈️.”

Vivienne and Ludford married in 2019, with Williams sharing moments from their wedding day on Instagram, including a heartfelt thank you to baker John Whaite for the stunning five-tiered wedding cake.

Their first dance to Lady Gaga's “Always Remember Us This Way” remains a cherished memory for fans and loved ones alike.

In April 2023, the couple announced their separation in a joint Facebook post, saying, “As many have noted, David and I have recently separated. After five and a half wonderful years, we have decided to part ways.”

They added: “We are still very much friends, but sometimes life gets in the way and people drift apart. We definitely wish each other the best and will always be a part of each other's lives.”

Ludford's announcement came hours after his manager confirmed the news in a social media post.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you that our beloved James Lee Williams, The Vivienne, passed away this weekend,” Jones wrote. “James was an incredibly loving, warm and wonderful person. The family is heartbroken after losing their son, brother and uncle. They are proud of the wonderful things James has accomplished in their lives and careers.”

He added: “We will not be releasing any further details. We ask that James' family be given the time and privacy they need to process and grieve now.”

After the news broke, multiple members of the RuPaul's Drag Race family shared their heartfelt words on social media. Among them was Jinkx Monsoon, who later won “Drag Race All Stars” Season 7, writing, “I'm completely speechless… [They] did [their] mark it in our hearts and move on [their] stages. It's too early for a curtain call, but I know it's a standing ovation.”

RuPaul's Drag Race longtime host and judge Michelle Visage also expressed her heartbreak in an emotional post on social media. “I don't know how to say what I feel,” Visage said. “We go back to when I first came here to the UK. You were always there, always smiling, always giving, always on point. I loved your laugh, your wit, your talent, your quickness, but I loved your friendship the most.

He added: “It was amazing to see you make your West End debut, to see your dream come true right in front of my eyes, I'm lucky to have known you and laughed with you so many times.”
