The former Washington envoy to Kabul says that an American citizen was released by the Taliban government after being detained for two months.
Fi Hall was arrested in February alongside a British couple in the 1970s, Barbie and Peter Reynolds, and their Afghan translator.
The couple operated training programs for women and girls, and decided to stay after the Taliban returned to power. Afghan officials have never been stopped by the public.
Zilmi Khalilzad, who held the position of private actor in the United States for Afghanistan from 2018-2021, said on the social media platform that MS Hall “will soon go home” and is currently in the care of Qatari officials.
In his announcement, Mr. Khalilzad thanked Qatar, who works as a mediator between the United States and Afghanistan.
The US State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Mrs. Hall is the fourth American citizen issued by the Taliban since January after Qatar mediated an agreement with them. Just a few days ago, they released another American, George Galzmann.
At that time, the government said that the airline mechanics had been released on “human reasons”, and that the decision was a “generous gesture.”
These decisions also come after hosting US officials in the Afghan capital Kabul.
These have been direct talks at a level between the two countries since President Trump was inaugurated, although the plans of the new US administration policy of Taliban and Afghanistan are still unclear.
When he was the last time in power, Trump negotiated the end of the American war in the Taliban by approving a 14 -month deadline to withdraw American forces and allied forces.
The agreement was criticized, as the Afghan government backed by the West and the democratic national team, which was quickly dropped by the Taliban forces during the withdrawal of the United States in 2021.
Trump blames his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the chaotic exit, which included a bombing at Kabul Airport. The attack was killed at least 170 Afghan civilians and 13 American soldiers.
MS Hall hosts, Barbie and Peter Reynolds are still in detention. The couple met at the University of Bath, married to Kabul in 1970 and operated educational programs in the region for years.
When the Taliban returned to power in 2021, They were among the few Westerners who decided to stay.
“They said they could not leave when the Afghans were at the hour of their need,” their daughter Sarah Intechelistle told the Sunday Times.
She said her parents were “accurate about maintaining the rules even when they continued to change.”
Mrs. Hall was arrested while traveling with the spouses to their home in the Central Bamyan Province.
Ms. Instaltal said that her 79 -year -old father has severe medical problems during prison, including chest inflammation, eye infections and digestive issues. I claimed that he was beaten since his arrest.
“Our desperate call to the Taliban is to release them to their home, as they have the medicine that he needs to survive,” she told the Sunday Times.
