The World Happiness Report for 2025 was recently released this month – and revealed that the United States is not only leaking behind other countries in North America, but also in many European countries.
The study, which is published every year by the Welfare Research Center at Oxford University, is largely classified as northern European countries. The subject of this year's report is “the impact of interest and participation on people's happiness,” according to the study.
Many factors, including inequality, generosity, freedom, expectation and corruption perceptions, all contribute to classifications – but one question is evaluated greatly by researchers.
“Our global happiness classification is based on one question that asks people to evaluate the quality of their lives on a scale of 0-10,” explains the site.
