Tiktok brings Amber alerts to for you feed, the platform . It cooperated with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) to bring these alerts to users and to “use the US Tiktok community power” to help children reunite with their families.
The social media platform began experimenting with this function last year, with a pilot program in Texas. Rollout was successful, with Tiktok saying that Amber alerts in Texas have viewed more than 20 million times and contributed to 2.5 million visits to the NCMEC website.
When issued an amber alert, users who live near the missing child will see it showing up for you feed. The posts will feature two hyperlinks. One will lead to the NCMEC's elaborate data and one will contact 911, in case there is information to provide. The platform also provides advertising credits from these posts to “strengthen NCMEC messaging through their official Tiktok account.”
This is just the latest social media platform to include amber alerts in some way. Instagram started pushing these alerts . Facebook . Here is the hope that Tiktok's adoption of this idea leads to more children who are safe to return to their loved ones.
