Earlier on Friday, Ukrainian President Voludimir Zelinsky called for more striking sanctions on Russia and accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of trying to withdraw peace talks to prolong the war.
However, on Thursday, while eating questions from correspondents along with Root, Trump said he preferred peace to sanctions, but he indicated that there are things that the United States can do financially which will be “very bad for Russia.” He did not specify what he would follow.
