US President Donald Trump said he had a “very lengthy and productive” phone call with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, which the leaders agreed to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
In a post on the social truth platform, Trump said that he and the Russian president “agreed to start our teams from negotiations immediately” and that he would start contacting Ukrainian President Volodimir Zellinski to inform him of their conversation.
Carmelin Dmitry Peskov spokesman said Putin had supported Trump's idea that it was time to work together.
He added that the phone call lasted for nearly an hour and a half, as Putin called Trump to visit Moscow.
The Ukraine Presidency later confirmed that Zelensky received a phone call from Trump, which lasted an hour, according to the news agency of Agence France -Presse.
The news comes at a time when US Defense Secretary Beit Higseth told the NATO summit that it is “unrealistic” to expect Ukraine to return to its borders before 2014.
