Welcome, Matt Rush! – Boreham Wood Football Club official website

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of hard-working striker Matt Rush. The 23-year-old has made his move from Sutton United permanent and will wear Luke Garrard's number 32 shirt.

After coming through the youth set-up at Southend United and making his EFL debut for the Shrimpers in 2019, Rush has plyed his trade to a number of teams in the Vanarama National League South, including Braintree, Aveley and Maidstone United.

Rush was outstanding for Aveley last season and then joined from Maidstone United last November, scoring an impressive 15 goals in 31 games, including one in the play-off quarter-finals. Afterwards, his goals became known to several clubs and he chose Vanarama National League side Sutton United on a permanent basis.

With playing time limited at Sutton, Matt returned to the Stones on loan last month, scoring three times in just six games before making his move to Meadow Park permanent today. It's safe to say that the 23-year-old striker knows how to finish!

Luke Garrard said: “Coming back, I was tasked with adding margin to the team that was already in the building. I see Matt Rush bringing value to the forward line. Take a look at what he achieved at Maidstone last year. He scored a huge goal in his small comeback.

He again made a positive impact during his brief spell at Maidstone on loan last month. I am confident he will bring energy, drive and an eye for purpose. The guy’s character is everything I want in a player.”
