Despite rumors and speculation surrounding each playoff game thus far, Notre Dame has stuck to its traditional uniforms.
They wore their home blue uniforms at home against Indiana and then wore their white uniforms in their last two games, against Georgia and Penn State, both of which they were designated as the visiting team as a lower seed.
Notre Dame, which faces Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, is the higher seed and gets to choose what color uniforms it will wear. As the home team of a technical, Notre Dame is expected to wear the blue jersey and gold pants combination it wore in its first-round home game against Indiana.
Given that Notre Dame's home blue uniforms don't clash with Ohio State's red uniforms, which they prefer, it seems like we could get blue vs. red in this scenario instead of the Buckeyes wearing white like a traditional away team would.
I wouldn't look past either team and try to do anything special to get them to a National Championship. But for two of the greatest programs in college football history, it's a shame we won't see any traditional, old school uniforms from this team.
There haven't been any rumors to back this up yet, but it would be a huge time for Marcus Freeman to decide to pull out the green. Notre Dame Cathedral has a long history of wearing green uniforms at key moments, and nowhere more so than this.
Many will remember Notre Dame wearing a green jersey and pants combination against Ohio State last year. The Irish lost in heartbreaking fashion, but it showed that the team is capable of playing at its best.
Could the Irish bring out some vegetables to exorcise some demons? We will see.
